In honour of Prince Charles' upcoming birthday on November 14, BBC released a new documentary called 'Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70,' and although the occasion calls for celebration, a royally uncomfortable truth is raining on the parade.
Prince William calls his father out on not spending enough time with his children, and it's nearly impossible to ignore the weight of his mother's absence when he does so.
In royal fashion, the way William criticizes Charles' grandfatherly duties is very polite, but his message is undeniable: "I would like him to have more time with the children." William continues, explaining that his father is a joy to have at home, and that he'd love to see him play more with his grandchildren, but that he's not there enough. "We need him there as much as possible."
Is Prince Charles not putting his family first?
Prince Harry shed some light on his father's situation, namely on how much he works. "He does need to slow down," the soon-to-be father said. "This is a man who has dinner ridiculously late at night, and then goes to his desk later that night and will fall asleep on his notes to the point where he’ll wake up with a piece of paper stuck to his face. The man never stops. When we were kids, there were bags and bags and bags of work that the office just sent to him. We could barely even get to his desk to say goodnight to him."
With a new grandchild on the way, and a new decade of his life approaching, hopefully Prince Charles will take his sons' advice.
