High school, at least in most people's memory, remains as an incredibly experimental time where a young, hormonal version of yourself tried on every fleeting trend and made a lot of choices that your adult brain is still trying to forget. While most people played around with their wardrobes and haircuts, Nina Dobrev played with fire.
In a recent interview with People, the 29-year-old Canadian actress opened up about her biggest beauty regret, which involves her wavy hair. As a teenager, if you had straight hair you might've lusted after a perm, and if you had curly hair, you probably craved pin-straight locks. "You could surf on my head," Dobrev says of her hair. "They're big waves."

The 'Vampire Diaries' star explained, "In high school, I didn't know what to do with it. Straightening it was what we all did, all my girl friends and I, but we weren't allowed to straighten our hair, but that didn't stop [us]. I would grab my mom's iron—like clothing iron—and we'd put a towel down on the counter."
It's exactly the image you're trying not to see: Dobrev and her friends would fan their hair out on the towel and use a clothing iron to straighten it. "Of course, there's a part of you that it can't reach," she said, gesturing to the part near her scalp, "so there would always be a line."
It's a shame that the frizzy-on-top look never caught on, since Dobrev is definitely not the only one still haunted by the smell of burning hair.
