Why shell out your entire paycheck to live in San Francisco, California when New Haven, Connecticut will pay you to live there? As urbanization becomes an increasing trend amongst mobile millennials, smaller towns are fighting back with...bribery?

Locations such as Maine, Maryland, Alaska, Canada, Italy, and Chile are all coming up with financial incentives to draw in new residents and start-up businesses, which also serves as a way of increasing their existing populations.

According to reports from Moneyish, smaller American and Canadian cities and states/provinces are using tax breaks, paying off student loans, and offering home renovations as a way to keep their residents from moving away. While it may seem ridiculous to get paid to live somewhere, with the steep levels of migration out of small towns, this may be essential.

The publication also reported that Chile's tactics are similar, if not more enticing. Chile has dreams of becoming South America’s business centre, so the government will pay roughly US$45,000 and give you a one-year working visa to launch your business there.

Would you cash in to live in one of these locations?
