Talk show host Wendy Williams has opened up about her past battle with cocaine addiction and how she was able to continue growing in her career regardless.

“I was a functioning addict though,” she said, according to Hollywood Life. “I would report to work on time and I walked in and all of my coworkers, and including my bosses, would know, but instead of firing me, you see, I would grab my headphones and arrogantly walk into the studio and dare them fire me because I was making ratings.”

Although William has said she herself thought her addiction had taken too firm of a hold on her life, she eventually was able to get the help she needed to get clean. “[A] functioning addict has several alarm clocks, you’re organized,” she said. “It’s a miracle I was able to stop.”

Since being able to get control of her addiction, Williams has began using her past experiences to help others avoid going down similar paths. She has partnered with The Hunter Foundation to launch the "Be Here" National Campaign that is designed to  help combat drug addiction and substance abuse.
