It's unquestionable: both the youngest Jenner and the Duchess of Sussex are unwavering forces in the world of fashion, driving up sales of just about anything they're spotted in. But it turns out shoppers prefer American royalty over British.
The Markle Effect wasn't strong enough to top fashion search engine Lyst’s 2018 Year in Fashion Report, which uses a combination of social media, search, and sales data to rank trends, brands, and influencers. According to the report, Kylie Jenner is the most influential celebrity in the world of style right now.
With the power of America's most famous family (the Kardashians) behind her, Jenner has driven more than two million searches this year from people all over the world who want to find the same Adidas tracksuits and Dior sunglasses, the report says. “A pink minidress that she wore to her birthday party saw searches for ‘pink dresses’ increase 107% in the following 48 hours.”

The Duchess of Sussex, however, didn't even come in second place. Though her royal wedding looks sparked enormous amounts of searches for Givenchy and Stella McCartney, and her simple but stylish outfits are documented regularly, she only came in third place. “On average, if Meghan wears a designer, that brand will see a +200% increase in search demand over the following week,” the report added.

So, who else bested the Duchess? Kim Kardashian, of course. In 2018, she got bike shorts, neon swimwear and '90s thongs trending again, which is a feat in its own right. But even Kim K was bested by the young Kylie. Fashion is still dominated by American stars, but is it also moving into the hands of the younger generation?
Following in the top 10 influencers are Cardi B, Beyoncé, Serena Williams, Chiara Ferragni, Blake Lively, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande. Some of the most popular trends this year also include meme fashion, '00s style, 'Dad' fashion, sport luxe, and clear plastic garments.
